After the establishment of a cryobank at Bora Medical center in 2003, the foundations for gradual establishment and development of a specialized Laboratory of In-Vitro Fertilization have been laid. The project has been carried out due to the consulting help and co-operation of Atanas Shterev, MPhD, Ass. Prof. And his team of gynecologists and embryologists.
In-Vitro Fertilization (INF) is a method upon which the ova of the wife are put together in laboratory conditions with her husband's spermatozoids in order to be fertilized. The obtained embryos are transferred into the uterus of the wife or are frozen (cryo-preservation). The ICSI method is similar to the IVF method, but upon it a special apparatus injects a spermatozoid into the ovum. Upon both methods the usage of a donor's spermatozoids and ova is possible.
After concluding the National Frame Contract 2005 and accepting of a program for medical treatment of female sterility, it became possible for certain cases to be enlisted for medicine reimbursement procedure if relevant documents are prepared, and consequently, the necessary assisted reproduction procedure to be carried on.
The necessary documents are prepared at Bora Medical Centre for the patients in need of the procedure, as well as everything else required for the procedure's realization.
